Kona Coffee Beans:
Kona Coffee Beans are cultivated from Mount Hualalai and Mauana Loa in the North and
South Kona Districts on the Big Island of Hawaii. The coffee plant was first introduced to the region of
Kona in the 19th century by Samuel Reverend Ruggles from Brazil. In 1928, he decided to plant some coffee
trees at his home in Captain Cook, Kona. The plants flourished from the bright sunny mornings, humid
rainy afternoons, mild nights, and rich volcanic soil. From this, Hawaii's coffee industry was born.
The Hawaii State Department of Agriculture has established the different grades of
Kona Coffee Beans. True Kona Coffee is only grown in Hawaii and acquired it's name
like most coffees, from the region in which it is cultivated.
Due to the unique flavour of Kona Coffee, expect to pay a few extra dollars for the special flavour.
Ensure to check the label to see if it contains 100% Kona Coffee. Kona Blends only require 10%
Kona Coffee Beans to be labelled a "Kona Blend".
